RookTrove stores your files. It does not sell them, read them, mine them, or show you advertising.
What is collected
- Account details: your name, username, email address and a hashed password.
- Your files and their names, sizes, types and dates, plus thumbnails made from images and videos.
- Security records: the IP address you signed up from, the browsers and addresses you are signed in from, and a cookie that recognises browsers you have used before (so you can be warned about new ones).
- Server logs of requests, kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
Who can see your files
- You, and the Rookery members and link holders you choose to share with.
- Automated systems that scan for malware and make previews.
- The site administrator sees account information (names, email addresses, storage used, sign-in times) and reported links, but the administrator’s tools do not open or list members’ files. Files are stored unencrypted on the server, so the operator could technically access them; doing so is reserved for responding to a lawful order or a serious abuse report about specific content.
Cookies
Only what the site needs: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and the device cookie described above. No analytics, advertising or third-party cookies. No third-party scripts or fonts are loaded.
Account and security emails are always sent. Everything else (Rookery requests, drop-link uploads, storage warnings, Droppings reminders) can be switched off from your account page or with the link in each message.
Keeping and deleting
Deleted files stay in Droppings for 14 days, then are permanently deleted. Deleting your account deletes your files and account details; backups age out on their normal schedule. Security logs are kept for a limited time.
